First Impressions Count

Surviving unemployment is not always as easy as it sounds. If you’ve been out of work for a while and are constrained by a limited income, looking your very best for job interviews and career fairs can be somewhat of a battle if your best suit is worse for wear. Nonetheless the show must go on and if you’re going to land that job you want you may want to heed this advice to make a good first impression:

Silhouettes and Style

There is one rule of fashion: all pieces must flatter. The purpose of style is to emphasize beauty, not highlight flaws; and poor fitting pieces will only summon attention to the places you wish to hide. Outfits therefore must be chosen with care — with their silhouettes noted and their designs scrutinized. Don’t be swayed by mere color. Choose instead what offers support for your figure.

Age Appropriateness

Youth is the muse of all designers. Inspiration is earned through teenage grins (and credit cards). It’s only natural that many of the season’s best trends favor adolescents. The endless aisles of Apple Bottoms clothes were created as a tribute to girls. Those tributes are not always to be offered to their mothers therefore. Understand the intentions of specific pieces; be aware of the targeted ages. If you exceed them don’t even consider the garment.

Cost Justification

Indulgence is an easy word to offer but far harder to apply. There are limits to note; there are budgets to maintain; and flinging your money toward trends that can’t be used again and again is a waste. It’s imperative therefore that style is laced with sense. All pieces must be useful rather than merely pleasing.

Let fashion offer more than patterns. Let it instead offer logic, someone’s first impression of you can last forever.
